Adobe Kroger
Adobe Francine Kroger is a fictional hero of Mythoverse Comics created by Dan Sacharow. She is one of the debut protagonists of the Mythoverse as well as the main protagonist of Adobe Kroger: Dame Commander. After a troubled childhood, Adobe sought out structure and meaning in her life and was slowly recruited into the Order of the Carolingian Cross. Adobe became a Holy Knight within the Order and serves this position as the spearhead of her assigned missions. Her common appearance within the Mythoverse is the uniform adorned upon her by the Order, which consists of a black trench coat, boots, pants, and gloves all with magical properties. Adobe possesses the knowledge and ability to use holy magic and can channel it through her twin sabers.

Character’s Origin/History
Adobe’s life began to degrade following the death of her father in the Afghan War. Her mother did not handle the death well and turned to men and substance abuse to quell the pain. Adobe’s mother began to turn the focus of her affections away from her daughter and to the several men she had dated, and she saw Adobe as a hindrance to her chances of finding happiness. This outlook had Adobe’s mother justifying the abuse she would enact on her daughter, and she would overlook the abuse that also came from her multiple partners.
The abuse was psychological, verbal, and quite often physical. The beatings Adobe would endure would sometimes leave her unable to stand, but it was the verbal and psychological abuse which most likely shaped Adobe’s world views and ways of thinking. Adobe would take the words to heart and believe that she was the cause of receiving the abuse and convinced herself that she deserved whatever her mother and her mother’s partner would unleash upon her. Adobe however still desired to escape the immediate pain, and turned to heavy drugs to relieve her stresses and anxieties.
Adobe did not have many resources in terms of acquiring her substances, and would have to go to dangerous lengths to obtain them. One night in particular things had gone far astray and she had attacked her mother’s suitor while under the influence of heroin. The amount was underwhelming for Adobe and she escaped her house to look for more narcotics. In her pursuit she was eventually arrested.
After the arrest, Adobe desired to pursue a reform school to rebuild her life, Blessed Nativity Catholic School for Girls. This school however was the gateway into the world of mysticism for Adobe, as it was in actuality a front for the recruitment of the Order of the Carolingian Cross. Students at the School would be exposed to light magic in subtle ways to discover which students could make for valid candidates.
Adobe’s discovery of light sensitivity however was not subtle, as it was discovered during a suicide attempt. A Carolingian Cross Knight saw Adobe throw herself off of a building, and with a prayer saved her life and later wiped the memory of the suicide attempt. Adobe woke up in an infirmary feeling immaculate and relieved due to the effects of the prayer. Her psychological and physical response to the light proved a sensibility to the light, and thus she was officially recruited by the Order.
Adobe at first was rebellious towards what was expected of her, but her exposure to light quelled her need for narcotics as it seemed to give off a powerful “natural” high. Adobe though did desire something more than a high to have happiness, and she did briefly find it through a relationship she developed with Elthia Fletcher. However, the peace and happiness was so great that it took a very drastic toll on Adobe once the relationship had ended.
Adobe rose to the rank of Dame Commander in the Order and now leads a patrol consisting of Reese Connelly and Casey Crumb.
Personality
Adobe is a blunt and straightforward woman with a tendency to rely on profanity to get across her feelings. She has not completely moved on from the trauma of her childhood and the failed relationship with Elthia, and this can lead to Adobe panicking. She sometimes stutters when this occurs.
Adobe tends to internalize anything that goes wrong as her fault; this being a trait that has returned from her childhood. She even finds it difficult to find meaning in any sort of intimacy, as any physical affection she would offer others was often to only obtain narcotics or immediate satisfaction during her teen years. Though these are incredible struggles Adobe grapples with on a daily basis, she does possess a resilience in that she is always looking to complete any objective before her.
Physical Appearance and Abilities
Adobe Kroger is a tall and athletically built woman with straight and short black hair. She wears Paladin’s Light Combat Regalia consisting of black enchanted articles of clothing and armor. The regalia can channel and enhance her abilities which are primarily prayer and light. Adobe has been illustrated in comics by Leandro Panganiban and Dylan Fagan.
The abilities Adobe possesses are those typical of a Paladin within the Order of the Carolingian Cross, which mostly consist of advanced physical capabilities. She can also cure poison, heal wounds, shield others, and enhance her sabers. All these magical abilities are a consequence of the strength of Adobe’s faith and prayer.
